Edward H. Knapp, age 84, passed away January 16, 2015, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas, with his family by his side. He was born April 11, 1930, in Wister, Oklahoma.
Mr. Knapp was a machinist for 20 years. He retired in 1984 from Farmall International Harvester in Rock Island, Illinois. He then moved to his home in Pine Snagg, Arkansas. There he started his own sawmill business, which enjoyed doing. He loved camping and cookouts with his family. He loved trail riding in the Kiamichi Mountains with his son and his horse, “Ole Bess”. He once crossed the Buffalo River on the back of another one of his horses, Spot. In his younger days, Mr. Knapp enjoyed coon hunting.
He married Joan Haskins in April of 1950.
Survivors include his children: Charles (Dana) Knapp of Inola, Oklahoma, Karen (Robert) Bachman of Port St. John, Florida, Curtiss (Tena) Knapp of Erie, Illinois, and Thomas (Bernie) Knapp of Sparta, Missouri; sisters: Shirley Caudill of Russellville, Arkansas, and Iris Long of Glendale, Arizona; and a special friend Janice Keene of Mountain View, Arkansas. Mr. Knapp had twenty-five grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver H. and Emily Butler Knapp; four sisters: Fern Bittle, Sylvia Knapp, Violet Stewart, and Ruby Knapp; and a brother, Duane Knapp. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Knapp.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. January 20, 2015, at Heber Springs Funeral Home, 1199 Wilburn Road in Heber Springs. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 2054 Good Springs Road, Heber Springs, Arkansas 72543. Interment in Magness Cemetery.
